Members
Be respectful and considerate.
This is especially important to building a strong community. We know that not everyone will be the best of friends, and there will be disagreements that occur. When this happens the staff here at WN will do our best to mediate the situation. However, we do ask that all members show respect to everyone, whether you like the person or not. We will not tolerate personal attacks of any nature.
Be creative.
The best thing a member at WN could do is explore their creativity. Bring new ideas to the table, explore your imagination and never be afraid to try new things.
Be active.
You don't have to be around WN every second of every day but if you love WN and want to be able to RP here for a long time, you should be relatively active in some form. Whether role-playing, or posting in our OOC boards, or just chatting in the OOC shoutbox, it all helps the community.
Don't plagiarize.
This includes both plagiarizing others' work and sharing it on WN, as well as plagiarizing WN content and sharing it on other sites. There is a zero tolerance policy for those who choose to plagiarize. The best way to avoid plagiarizing is to ask for permission from the author of any content you wish to post here/elsewhere, as well as giving credit to the original author.
Don't be afraid to get involved!
There are so many things you can do to get involved here at WN. This ranges from joining the Staff team, to becoming an Ambassador, to simply saying hi to a newbie. Feel free to share new ideas you might have for WN, or start a club or RP with someone you've never RPed with before. The more people get involved with WN, the more there'll be to do!
Have fun!
The whole point of roleplaying is to have fun. Enjoy your time at WN.
Role-playing
Use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
This helps both the writer and readers in understanding posts and biographies.
All RP posts should be written in third person perspective, past tense.
EX: 'Jane pulled out her homework as the professor walked into the room.'
Godmodding, metagaming, and powerplaying should all be avoided.
- Godmodding
Godmodding is controlling another player's character without their permission. This can be as simple as describing the character holding something or wearing a certain outfit, to their actions and responses as well as the results of said actions and responses. Allow the other role-player to contribute to the scene of the thread. Give the other player the opportunity to respond and play off your character's actions. Godmodding can also include injuring or killing off a character without the permission of the other character's player. - Metagaming
Metagaming is role-playing with knowledge that your character has no way of realistically knowing in game. Often this will happen by the player reading character biographies, other RP threads, developmental threads, informational topics/guides, chatting with other players, and more. The best way to avoid this is to remember that just because you yourself know something, doesn't mean your character will know the same information. Think realistically about what knowledge your character should/would know. - Powerplaying
Powerplaying is when a player portrays their character as being superior than other characters and consistently at an advantage in most or all situations. No character should be portrayed to be the best of the best of the best. All characters should have their strengths and weaknesses, as well as flaws and benefits. This is not to be confused with characters that think they are superior/the best, which could be a character personality trait. We do not want perfect characters that can do no wrong, as the roleplay would become very boring very quickly.
Sensitive themes are permitted.
This includes but is not limited to murder, suicide, disabilities, disorders, physical abuse, emotional abuse, addictions, and more.
Swearing is permitted.
Do not abuse this privilege, whether IC or OOC. Discrimination will not be tolerated.
Graphic violence is permitted.
Explicit violence IC is allowed.
Sexual content is limited - think PG-13.
References to sex, sexual innuendos, suggestive scenes, and making out are permitted. Sex scenes will not be allowed. Explicit references and non-consensual sex (rape, pedophilia, etc) will also not be allowed.
Canon
WN is a canon based RP, taking place Post-Epilogue.
WN treats the Harry Potter book series as official canon - meaning, everything that happened and is revealed in the book series is canon. There are no alternates to the history provided by the books and this is not optional. All information revealed from interviews with JKR, as well as information revealed by Pottermore will also be treated as official canon.
The official canon world of HP will be expanded upon by WN.
WN, while canon to the books, does take the liberty of expanding the information of the HP series. Original ideas, objects, places, potions, spells, historical events, timelines, and more will be added to WN's official compendium. The information provided in the compendium will be treated as official canon. This compendium will be put together by the community/staff to provide a comprehensive guide for all members of the community. If new information revealed by JKR or Pottermore is in contradiction to anything WN has created, WN will allow the new canon information to override the original idea created by WN.
