VueScan is a powerful, easy-to-use program that: VueScan 9.6.38 (64-bit) | Software Downloads I have the same old LiDE 25 scanner, and I use VueScan with excellent results. If one is taking that route, Signal is another option with different provenance which may be appealing. (There's also a lot of data in Wikipedia's Comparison of instant messaging clients.) Or, VueScan can open up a bunch of advanced features which offers great control over the scanner, including white balance, black point, brightness and contrast, output color space, and a host of crop and filter options. Both machines are set to “Always.” It seems odd to me that the order (or even contents) of a pop-up menu would change based on some criteria, but that seems to be what may be going on here.

I have an early 2013 retina MacBook Pro that I use as a music server. I installed Mojave on it. Everything works except an old Canon LiDE 25 scanner that Canon supports up thru OSX 10.6. When I move my late 2013 Mac Pro over to Mojave I am planning on buying a new flatbed scanner and I am looking for suggestions for a new flatbed scanner.

No it doesn't, as it's a clean install and there's nothing to update at this point. Based on other reports, I now believe this is probably intended behaviour. I suspect we'll be able to confirm this when the first "update" for Mojave comes out and we can test it. In one way, it makes sense, if there's an update to install, Apple are going to push you to show you it and make you install it.
